OUR PROGRAM

Lack of acceptance in the family, work, church, and other social organizations due to homophobia within the Latino community creates isolation in silence that becomes a barrier for self-esteem and personal progress. Hermanos de Luna y Sol is sensitive to this fact and takes into account the difficulties that some of the participants might face when they consider coming out of the closet. By discovering the possibilities and resources that they have access to, the participants will be empowered to conquer one of the biggest barriers they face; silence. Regaining this power can open their minds to make wiser decisions regarding their personal life.

Hermanos de Luna y Sol offers space and time to spark open conversation about the main problems Latino men having sex with other men face in life. Some of those topics include:

  • The social, family, and cultural barriers they encounter
  • The survival strategies they find against oppression
  • The role and meaning that their sexuality has in their personal life
  • The emotional concerns and level of communication they find in their sexual experiences
  • The great impact that HIV and AIDS has in their life
  • The diverse resources they have at their disposal to help prevent possible transmission of HIV

Everyone is welcome in the program for who they really are. Hermanos de Luna y Sol values individuality and presents an opportunity to share experiences from which others learn. It is a program where individuals participate, teach, and learn from each other. The program strengthens the foundations of a conscious, active, and healthy community. Hermanos de Luna y Sol is a program specifically designed to facilitate an atmosphere of growth and achievement for every participant.
